Livestock drop-off at Elmwood Meat Plant

Schedule an appointment, bring a simple customer list, and we take it from cutting instructions through pickup.

From appointment to pickup

This is the livestock side of the same process your customers see on our Services page.

1

Schedule a drop-off

Call the plant so we can agree on a day and time that works for both of us. We need the space and availability, and you need a slot that fits your trailer.

2

Have each share spoken for

Beef is sold as a whole, half, or quarter. Hogs are a whole or a half. Before the animals leave the farm, it helps us—and your customers—if each share already has a name and a phone number.

3

Let your customers know we will call

A short heads-up goes a long way. We will call for cutting instructions. They are also welcome to call us first, and to look at the cut sheets on this site.

4

We finish the order

We take instructions from each customer, hang and age beef, cut to spec, vacuum-seal, freeze, and call when their order is ready for pickup.

What helps on drop-off day

A simple list is enough. First and last name, a phone number we can reach, and the share size for each customer.

  • Confirmed appointment date and time
  • Beef listed as whole, half, or quarter; hogs as whole or half
  • Name and phone for the person we should call about that share

Why the names matter

We process livestock for the people who already own their share. Under custom processing rules, those owner names are recorded before slaughter. Nebraska’s animal-share statute describes the same idea: ownership is in place, and those names are given to the plant, before the animal is harvested.

We are not a USDA-inspected plant selling boxed meat. Keeping a clear list protects the plant, the producer, and the family who bought the share—and it tells us who to call for cutting instructions.

This is how we stay on the right side of custom processing rules. It is not legal advice for how you structure your own sales.

How we make the process smoother for everyone

Most drop-offs go just fine. A little extra clarity on the list helps the rest.

A complete list before the trailer leaves

If a share is still looking for a buyer, it is easier to finish that at home than after the animal is here. We can start cutting once we know who to call.

A quick note that we will be in touch

When customers expect our call—or know they can reach us at 402-994-5655—instructions come in sooner and we can keep the cooler moving.

The share size they bought

If two families are splitting what started as a half, it helps to have both names on the drop-off list. We cut the share we were given, so everyone gets the meat they paid for.

Timing that helps us do good work

Beef

We have a little more room after drop-off. Instructions within about three days keeps aging and cutting on track. Calling ahead is even better.

Hogs

We typically butcher Fridays and cut Mondays, and we are closed Sunday. A shorter window means hog customers are in good shape if they have already thought through the cut sheet.

You can send customers the same sheets we use: beef cut sheet and hog cut sheet.
